Farma Industria Ticino (FIT), the association of chemical and pharmaceutical industries in the Swiss canton of Ticino, is a private organization founded in 1980 under the name ATICEF, and headquartered in Lugano.
In 2020, the Association decided to expand its network and now includes among its members the following types of companies:
(with voting and eligibility rights): companies and associations in the chemical or pharmaceutical sector whose main activity is industrial or research-oriented, or companies whose turnover is generated in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry or in trade.
(acquisition of voting and eligibility rights starting from the fourth year of membership): start-up companies in the chemical or pharmaceutical sector
(without voting and eligibility rights): service and consulting companies

The Association currently has 38 regular members, 2 start-ups, and 21 associate members, with a total workforce of 4,136 employees and a combined annual turnover of approximately 2.7 billion Swiss francs. This clearly demonstrates that Farma Industria Ticino represents the vast majority of Ticino-based companies in this specific sector.
The average number of employees in the companies affiliated with Farma Industria Ticino is around 100, which is therefore higher than the average for the entire industrial sector in Ticino (with an average company size of 50 employees).

Another area in which Farma Industria Ticino contributes its expertise is vocational training. This commitment stems from the constant need to identify and train future collaborators. The Association’s activity in this specific field focuses on promoting all educational opportunities related to careers in the sector and aimed at young people.
In particular, Farma Industria Ticino organizes preparatory courses for young people undertaking apprenticeships in the professions of chemical laboratory technician, biological laboratory technician, and chemical technician. In this way, young apprentices have the opportunity to be guided and supported in their daily experiences by a group of trainers who, thanks to their current professional experience in the field, are able to adapt and apply their knowledge in close alignment with workplace requirements.
