PRESS RELEASE

A successful first FIT Pharma Summit

The first FIT Pharma Summit was held on Friday September 9th, 2016 at the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, in collaboration with Credit Suisse.

Farma Industria Ticino (FIT), the association of the Ticino chemical and pharmaceutical industry, at present counts 27 member companies with a combined workforce of 2500 employees and a total annual turnover of approximately 2,3 billion Swiss francs.

FIT represents a leading sector and a key contributor to the economy in the region. Several investments accounting for almost a half billion Swiss francs have been planned for Ticino in the next three years, mainly in R&D and innovation.

Fit Pharma Summit was conceived as a meeting for Board Members and Senior Leaders of the member companies, a privileged moment to share information, gain a common understanding, discuss the future trends in our industry and last but not least, build the right environment for a sustainable growth, which cannot be isolated from achieving healthy financial results, from the social commitment towards employees and territory, from the environment in which we operate.

In this positive and constructive atmosphere Giorgio Calderari, Chairman of the association, introduced important Key Opinion Leaders from the pharma world. The heart of their speech: market access, corporate governance, trends in the industry, the economic situation and financing opportunity. Calderari also moderated the discussion during which the experts from the audience – about 50 people representing 20 member companies – have interacted vigorously with the prestigious and influential speakers:

  • Walter P. Hölzle, VIPS Chairman (Swiss association of pharmaceutical companies)
  • Alexander Natz, Secretary General, EUCOPE (European Confederation of Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurs)
  • Dave Melin, Founder and Principal, Innovation Partners (US), LLC
  • Filippo Celio, Lawyer and notary public, Founding partner at CELIO CAVADINI & PARTNERS
  • Fabio Bossi, Swiss National Bank delegate for regional economic relations
  • Thomas Bornemann, Investment Banking and Capital Market, Healthcare team from Credit Suisse London
  • Eric Cornut, Special Envoy of the CEO of Novartis, previously Chief Ethics, Compliance and Policy Officer and Chief Commercial Officer of Novartis

The next commitment for Farma Industria Ticino is the CPhI. It is the most important worldwide chemical exhibition and will be held from October 4-6th in Barcelona. A unique opportunity to present in an unanimous way – to an audience of decision makers, experts and professionals listed in the international market – the pharma industry in the Swiss Canton of Ticino. This is the objective of the “Piazza Ticino” project, which is now in its third edition: to continue to be a perfect example of synergy and fruitful cooperation among economic forces and institutions, in favor of a sector – the chemical-pharmaceutical industry in Ticino – with a high rate of expertise, able to provide qualified jobs for a highly skilled workforce, most of which occupied by people resident in Ticino.
